Aggies Sports

The 2009 edition of the Oklahoma Panhandle State University Aggies football team will kickoff their 90th season of football on Saturday, August 29 at 2 PM (Oklahoma time) when they face off with the Skyhawks of Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado.
The Aggies are coming off a 3-7 campaign in 2009 while the Skyhawks notched 2 victories against 9 defeats last season. One of those wins came in Goodwell with a 21-0 victory over the Aggies.
Last year’s game was 0-0 with less than 1 minute left in the half when the Skyhawks got on the board to go up 7-0 at intermission. They added another score late in the 3rd quarter to go up 14-0 and  added another 4th quarter tally to reach their 21-0 margin of victory.
“We played them closer than the eventual 21 point margin, but there are no moral victories. We have to be able to put points on the board and not squander opportunities, this year, if we are to come away with a win.” Stated Aggie head football coach Mike Wyatt.
Much like the Aggies, the Skyhawks are searching for a replacement for Mark Meng, the All American linebacker lost to graduation. The Aggies are also looking to replace a top linebacker in former All Independent’s Defensive Player of the Year, Matt Warner. However, the Aggies return more of a supporting cast. 19 starters return for the Aggies, so hopes are high that this will be a break-out season for the Goodwell, Oklahoma team. Fort Lewis returns 13 starters for Coach Ed Rifaloto’s fifth season at the Durango school. Nine return on defense.
“Like all season-opening games more is unknown about both teams than is known. We believe we have improved, but we cannot make a qualified judgment until we get on the field against an opponent. We are anxious to get the season underway. “added Wyatt.
