Aggie senior linebacker Matt Warner has agreed to join the Dusseldorf Panther of the German Football League for the beginning of his professional football career. Warner had been twice named the Independent Collegiate Athletic Association’s Defensive Player of the Year and ranked as one of the top tacklers in NCAA II. In his two seasons with the Aggies, Warner had recorded 241 total tackles with 143 of those being solo tackles. Prior to 2008, he was named as a pre-season All American by the Collegiate Draft Services.
Shortly after his graduation from OPSU, Warner will fly to Dusseldorf to join the Panther who have already begun their season. He is expected to get about 10 games in for the 2009 season.
The Dusseldorf Panther is one of Germany’s most storied teams in American football having won six German championships since their inception in 1983.
