AGGIE GRIDIRON LEGENDS: John Winchester, '76 All American Strong Safety

Posted Sunday, July 27, 2008 by Staff
Aggie gridder John Winchester is just as much a panhandle legend as an Aggie legend. The former NAIA All American strong safety hails from Texhoma where he was an All State football player playing on a state championship team in 1971 and a state finalist in 1972.

A number of great football coaches have come from the Aggies through the years and John Winchester ranks among the finest. As an assistant coach at Guymon High School in 1987 Winchester was part of a state title team and a runner-up in 1986 , then proved his metal as a head coach taking the Texhoma Red Devils to the state finals in 1993 and 1994. He also claims two state schampionships at Turpin High School in 1995 and 1997 as the head football coach, as well as two runners-up spots.
