Wyatt's Hall of Fame: LB-Lorenzo Greghi

Posted Friday, June 13, 2008 by Staff
Members of Wyatt's Hall of Fame are players that Coach Wyatt has coached over his 30 year career and are those he considers the best that he has coached!

Lorenzo Greghi, a native of Tresigallo, Italy, played 14 years for Coach Wyatt as an inside linebacker. His career began in Ferrara, Italy, with the Aquile Ferrara where the team won an A2 Italian National Championship and also finished as a semi finalsit. Greghi then joined Wyatt in Stockholm, Sweden, where he played on back to back European Championship teams in 1994 and 1995.

In 1996, Greghi coached outside linebackers for Coach Wyatt at Dodge City Community College before returning to Italy to record back to back Italian National Championships while playing for the Bologna Phoenix.

In 1998, Greghi re-joined his former mentor in Ruesselshiem, Germany, playing for the Rhein Main Razorbacks, helping to guide the team to 3 first place finishes, 2 seconds and a third place finish in the South Conference of the German Football League. In 2000, for his play Greghi was honored as All Europe Linebacker, the only player from the GFL South to acheive that distinction.

Additionally, Greghi was a member of the Italian National Team representing his country in international play.

"The key to Greghi's success was his consistency of play. He'd make some big plays from time to time, but more importantly, he made few mistakes and was usually right where he was supposed to be. Some might consider him an overr-achiever, but I always recognized the ability he had. When I think of great linebackers that I have had, Greghi will rank right there with the best of them."Stated Mike Wyatt.

Greghi was thought by most to be undersized to play an inside linebacker position, but he patterned his game after great professional linebackers like Sam Mills and Mike Singletary.

"One of the highest compliments that I can pay to a player is that he played with heart. I don't know any player that I have had who had more heart than Greghi. He was also a real student of the game." added Wyatt.
